Councillors - Your Brentwood Councillor
Brentwood Borough Council has the current political make up:
Conservative 21
Liberal Democrat 9
Labour 2
Brentwood First 4
Independent 1
Each councillor is elected for a period of four years and must then either stand down or seek re-election. Elections are held each year, on the first Thursday in May, for a third of the seats. In the fourth year no Borough Council election takes place because of the County Council elections.

How Do I Become a Local Councillor?
If you enjoy being part of a community and would like to make a difference and do more to help then how about becoming a councillor? You must be British, Irish, a member of the Commonwealth or other European Union country, and over 18 to stand for election. You can either be nominated through a political party or nominate yourself as an independent (with ten registered electors in support). Choosing your local councillor
You get the chance to vote for your local councillors each year, usually on the first Thursday in May. Brentwood has what's called a two-tier authority. This means that Essex County Council provides some of our local services, these include education, social services, fire and rescue, highways, trading standards and consumer protection. It also means that every fourth year you can vote for a local County councillor rather than a Borough councillor. For further information please go to the Electoral Services section of this website.
