Contact Us - Out of Hours/Emergency Contacts

The Council’s out of hours service deals with emergency calls when the council offices are closed.   An emergency is defined as events or incidents involving significant risk to life, limb or property.  The service does not deal with general enquiries.

In the event of an emergency please ring the telephone number provided below which is relevant to the type of emergency that you wish to report:

Council Services

Emergency Council Service – 01277 262728 – This number can be used for emergencies in respect of council buildings and assets, flooding, dangerous structures, fire or accident damage in imminent danger of collapse onto a public place and any civil emergency.

Emergency Council Housing Repairs – 01277 261112 - This number must only be used in an emergency that is likely to be life threatening or cause serious injury to persons or significant damage to property.  If it is unnecessary for the repair to be dealt with out of hours we would appreciate if you could call us the next working day.  Please note: If you use the emergency service for work that is not an emergency, you may be recharged for the full cost of the call out.

Examples of emergency repairs may include:  Burst water pipes, severe leaks, blocked drains (resulting in overflows presenting a public health hazard) and toilets, total failure of central heating.

Homelessness - In an emergency homeless situation out of hours, please contact 01277 261112

Highways

Highways Emergency (Essex County Council) – 0845 603 7631 – Icy roads, flooding, obstruction on public highways, fallen trees, street lighting etc. For further information on the areas of responsibility for Essex County Council in respect of Highways please view the Roads and Highways web page.

Miscellaneous

Community Halls -  01277 215151 Brentwood Leisure Trust is responsible for the management of the Community Halls.

Noise/Pollution– Out of hour noise complaints are monitored on a planned basis.  However, if you have a complaint regarding noise please complete the on line Noise/Pollution complaint form, which will be dealt with by the Environmental Health Team during normal working hours.

Stray Dogs –The Council’s Dog Warden service is available by ringing 01277 312504, 08:30 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday, 08:30 – 16:30 Friday only.

Bee/Wasp Nest Removal – Responsibility lies with the owner or occupier of the premises or land on which the nest is present.  Please contact a specialist pest control contractor, details of which can be found in the Yellow Pages.
