Theft from Vehicles
Don't make thieves' lives easy... make sure you look your vehicle!
Police in Brentwood are reminding people to secure their vehicles adequately and remove items from display following the thefts from nine insecure vehicles.
A majority of the thefts were due to insecure vehicles or where police could find no damage of where the thieves could have broken in.
Lock all Doors, Windows and Sunroofs whenever you leave your vehicle unattended: Even if it is for a short period of time.
Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle such as iPods, games consoles and Sat Nav systems on show or in your car overnight.
Ensure that you wipe away any suction pad marks left on the windscreen as thieves look for these as a clue that you may have a Sat Nav.
Remember to mark your sat nav with your postcode and house number.
If you do leave your car unattended, try to choose a secure car park where CCTV cameras are in operation as the thief doesn't want to be caught on camera. When at home, if you have a garage always use it or park in a well lit place where there are good natural surveillance opportunities that will deter a potential thief.
Never leave your keys in the ignition unattended. Thieves take advantage of the time when you quickly dash into the shop with your car engine running. Remain VIGILANT: If you see anyone acting suspiciously please contact us on 101 or 07896871009. If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, please call us, our officers would rather attend and find everything is in order than turn up a day later to find someone has been the victim of theft.
Effective Crime Prevention is all about awareness and so if you would like any further advice, please contact our Crime Reduction officer on 01277 223639 or a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 07896 871008
