Dog Warden
The Dog Warden deals with the seizure and detention of stray dogs, the administration of the dog fouling laws and initial complaints about barking dogs. The Dog Warden is also involved in promoting responsible dog ownership.
Brentwood Borough Council's Dog Warden service is available 8:30 - 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 8.30 - 16.30 on Friday.
The main responsibilities of the Dog Warden are to:
- collect stray dogs from the highway and strays that have been taken in by the public
- carry out patrols of local parks and streets
- investigate complaints about dog behaviour
- give information and advice about dog ownership

If you have a complaint about dog barking, fouling or straying, details can also be given to the Environmental Health Admin Team on 01277 312504 when the Dog Warden is out of the office. Please provide as much information as possible to help the Dog Warden carry out his investigation:
- address from which barking is coming
- times of day it occurs and how frequently
- description of dog straying and location
- sightings of dog fouling

You should contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
What is a dangerous dog?
Although certain breeds of dog are named in the legislation and are subject to specific controls, any dog (large or small) has the potential to be dangerous or aggressive.
