Consultations

Close up of a woman's mouthYour views and needs are at the heart of everything we do.

That is why the Council consults with residents, businesses and other organisations, to ensure the decisions we make represent public opinion and are informed by what you tell us.

Current Consultations

Housing Survey

More than 5,000 Brentwood residents will be asked to take part in a housing survey during May and early June.

The Council is required by Government to have a clear understanding of housing requirements in the Borough and to carry out a housing survey every few years. The results of the survey will help us to develop our housing and planning policies to meet the future accommodation and support needs of local people.

We will be sending out more than 5,000 surveys to a random selection of households in all wards across the Borough, covering accommodation of all kinds including private and social housing.

We are asking for your views on whether your current accommodation is adequate and what you think your future housing requirements will be. If you do receive a survey, please return it to the independent research company that we have appointed by 5 June. Each survey will carry a unique access code so you can complete the survey online if you prefer.

Consultation method: Household survey. Online or paper response

Consultation start date: 15 May 2013

Consultation close date: 5 June 2013

Tenancy Strategy

A Tenancy Strategy sets out matters which registered providers of social housing in our borough (including, in our case, the Council as landlord) must have regard to in forming policies about:

  • The kind of tenancies they grant.
  • The circumstances in which they will grant a tenancy of a particular kind.
  • Where they grant tenancies for a fixed term, the length of the term.
  • The circumstances in which they will grant a further tenancy on the coming to the end of an existing tenancy.

Our Tenancy Strategy has been published as as consultation document, to give every registered provider of social housing in our district an opportunity to comment on the proposals. In addition we would welcome any comments from our other statutory and voluntary agency partners, and from any other interested persons.

This consultation closed on 3.2.13.

The results of the Tenancy Strategy Consultation were presented to the Policy, Projects and Resources Board, item 7, on 13.3.13

Chatham Way Car Park Consultation

The Council believes a Pay & Display system is more appropriate in Chatham Way car park and will enhance its “pop in" character.

A Pay & Display system would allow us to:

  • Include this car park in the Pay by Phone system that we are introducing in February
  • Remove the entrance and exit barriers
  • Reduce the parking abuse for the benefit of the vast majority of our customers
  • Offer our customers a better service and allow us to develop a more flexible approach to administering the car park
  • Reduce the cost of running the car park

This consultation closed on 6.1.13.

The results of the Chatham Way Car Park Consultation were presented to the Town Centre Management, Community and Localism Panel, item 5, on 5.2.13.

Draft Local Council Tax Support Scheme

From 1st April 2013 Council Tax Benefit will be abolished and replaced by a new Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) scheme. Brentwood Borough Council is looking to design a replacement scheme that improves support for those in low paid work, keeps families together and saves our local taxpayers over £700,000.

Please note the consultation with the public closed on 22nd October 2012. The results of the consultation will be reported to Councillors and will shape the design of our final scheme. Anonymised  results will be collated and made available to the public as part of a secondary consultation process on our final scheme. We are grateful to all of those who responded

For further information please follow the link to the Draft Local Council Tax Support scheme web page.

Vision and Priorities 2013 - 2016

The Vision and Priorities Consultation has now closed. The results have been collated and used to inform the draft Corporate Plan 2013-16 that was approved by the Council at the Ordinary Council meeting on 19.12.12. A final version of this plan is to be published in late March 2013.
